What interested you in working for KMA?

I learned about KMA when I met Business Development Manager Debbie Olken. I made an instant connection with her and found myself drawn to KMA and the dynamic team of professionals there. I could see that it was an organization I wanted to work for.

Why did you choose to work in HR?

More than 25 years ago, I was given the opportunity to be Office Manager for one of InterMed’s medical practices. At the time, HR was being done by the individual site managers and I found that I loved all the people “stuff” like benefits, policies, employee relations, etc. The group soon saw the need for a centralized HR function, and I was given the opportunity to spread my wings in the area of human resources, bringing to it my operations/practice management insight, which has been a big plus over the years.

What do you like best about your work as an HR Professional?

Building positive relationships comes naturally to me. I am very empathetic and able to connect with people, which is well-suited to the HR profession. I am able to be there for people when they need HR help. They trust me to do right for them, and I find it very rewarding when I am able to satisfy their needs and the organization’s needs as well.

What’s one takeaway from your HR work that you’d like to share with others?

What stands out to me over my career is that I’ve had the opportunity on several occasions to build something from the ground up—whether it be a medical office or an HR function. I find addressing the challenges of projects like that to be both invigorating and rewarding.
