February 1, 2024

Greetings, and welcome to February, the month I associate with love and chocolate. Any leaplings out there? You’ve got a real birthday on the calendar, and all of us get one extra day this leap year. How will you spend yours?

We’ve been doing some pulse checks with our clients and are hearing about unprecedented employee relations and communications issues. Employee burnout and wellbeing continues to challenge organizations. And more than ever, employers must accommodate employee needs in offering expanded compensation and benefits, flexibility in work arrangements, support work/life balance, facilitate professional development pathways, all while building a culture that employees want to be part of. That’s a lot on the plates of leaders and managers!

In our latest Q&A with KMA interview, Kim Rummler, HR Services Manager, touches on some of these pressures arising from what she calls “the talent issue.” We asked her about the biggest changes she has seen over her 25+ years in HR, what challenges her clients are facing, and some of the trends she’s preparing for this year. It’s a great encapsulation of what’s happening in the world of work right now, and Kim is so insightful. Read her interview here.

Webinar: Talent Acquisition and Retention in a Competitive Landscape

We have a webinar coming up on February 29th from 12-1 with Holly Lancaster, our Director of Recruiting, and Kari Meillat, our Compensation Services Manager. We will delve into key strategies for recruiting, building an irresistible Employer Value Proposition (EVP), crafting compelling compensation packages, and establishing a robust employer brand. Register here. It’s a great learning opportunity for your one extra day this leap year!

Best Practices for Managing the Candidate Experience with Respect and Professionalism

Chelsea Livingston, KMA’s Recruiting Services Manager, shares five best practices for ensuring your candidates have a constructive and well managed recruiting experience. She points out that it’s not just the right thing to do, it’s smart from a business perspective – and for protecting your employer brand. You can read Chelsea’s advice here.

What Makes an Employer of Choice? Take our Short Survey!

We’re conducting a survey that asks what employees are looking for from their job and employer. This data will help us advise our clients on compensation, benefits, creative perks, employee satisfaction and productivity, and culture building initiatives. As always, our goal is to help our clients identify and recruit the best talent, and create opportunities and environments for their employees to thrive.

Please add your voice to the conversation and take the survey here. It’s completely confidential, and only takes a minute or so to complete. Thank you!

Compliance Alerts

We have three resources to share that address the current compliance issues employers need to be aware of:

Employment Posters

Now is a good time to check employment posters to ensure they’re up to date and accessible to all employees, including those who are working remotely. We provide links for employment posters here.

OSHA Forms

Annual OSHA Form 300A Workplace Posting Begins February 1st, 2024. Employers are required to post Form 300A even if they didn’t have any recordable incidents in 2023.

Form 300A Electronic Submission is Required by March 2nd, 2024. Covered establishments that had 250 or more employees in the prior calendar year, or 20–249 employees if they’re in certain high-risk industries, must submit their 2023 Form 300A data electronically, using OSHA’s online Injury Tracking Application (ITA). The deadline to submit the report is March 2, 2024. Read the full article here.

Employment Law Trends

Finally, I am linking to an article from the HR Support Center on the employment law trends to be aware of for 2024, including cannabis, victim protection, reproductive loss and bereavement leaves, paid leaves, and pay transparency and equity. Check it out here.

Thanks for kicking off your February with us. While we can’t control all of the things that may be challenging us at work, we can control how we respond. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, reach out to KMA for help with recruiting, managing, and retaining your most valuable resource: your people.

❤️ 🍫 Cheers!
