KMA reports that the Portland City Council has approved an increase in the City’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. This increase goes into effect January 1, 2016, up from the current Maine state minimum wage of $7.50 an hour.

The Portland City minimum wage will increase again on January 1, 2017 to $10.68 per hour and then starting in July of 2018, increases will coincide with the Consumer Price Index to account for inflation.

“Employers in Portland should plan for this change by reviewing the hourly wages of their employees to ensure compliance with this new regulation,” Karen explains. “As well as to consider the impact of this increase and future increases on their staffing plans.”
